Make Room for Baby
So last night I was flipping through the channels and got stuck on a
design show where they were creating an oh-so-cute nursery. As usual,
the designer was freaking out about finishing on time and the help was
breaking things.
It turns out that on-time means before the mom and new baby arrive home
from the hospital. Apparently the designers were called in the moment
the woman left for the hospital.
Suddenly, in the midst of stuffing daisy pillows, the camera cuts to
the delivery room where the mom is laboring away, complete with a
blurry box to cover up sensitive areas. This is when I realized I was
on Discovery Health Channel and not regular Discovery. The camera was
right there flipping between the house and the hospital, house and the
hospital —talk about drama!
Of course, I was sucked into the show. I just had to know if there
could possibly be a happy ending when the woman’s den was turned into
an explosion of pastel pink with fake tulips in flower pots. It turns
out, her hormones must have still been out of whack because she ended
up loving it.
Oh, I almost forgot the safety inspector who came to inspect the room
for child hazards….if only she would visit other design shows. I can
see her going head to head with one of the chicks from Trading
Spaces—now that would be drama. “No, you really can’t put moss on the
walls Genevieve”
