Trees and Cat Cows

Last Friday was my first prenatal yoga class. It was an amazing feat to
stretch my body in ways that I’m not even sure my pre-pregnancy body
can stretch. I had the honor of being the one with the biggest belly in
the class (before you think I’ve turned into a beachball overnight,
there were only two other women there). It was a little awkward to
maneuver my body into these stretches when my mind no longer has a
clear idea of how big my body is, or how it can move. I felt like a
fawn trying to stand up for the first time—it can be done, but it’s not
very elegant.

We went through a series of breathing, balancing and stretching
exercises, followed by meditation. You can imagine how much fun
balancing is—standing on one leg in the tree pose. For meditation, the
instructor got out huge floor pillows that were soooo comfortable. Due
to my size I got two pillows. After relaxing on the pillows for 15
minutes, I was convinced I wasn’t going back to work, but I had a good
lunch waiting for me in the office refrigerator.

So I returned to the office and conducted a furious internet search for
the yoga pillows. I must have them!, but in the meantime, the yoga
place is only a block from the office—maybe they won’t notice if I
sneak down there during the day for naptime.

Frank is back from his week-long trip and I’m anxious to show him the
baby kicks I’ve noticed. You can actually see my belly moving during a
particularly active stage.
