With Child
159 lbs, 24 weeks, 9.75 inch belly
It’s now official that the rest of the world can tell that I’m
pregnant. I’ve been asked by our UPS carrier if I’m “with child.” The
most popular question is “when are you due?” followed by “do you know
what you’re having?” I have to hold my tongue not to respond “a baby”
to the second question.
So far the baby is well-behaved. This morning the baby woke up at the
same time we did—either that or the baby was kicking me so I would shut
of the beeping alarm. The baby also seems to be awake in the late
afternoon (to keep me company on the way home from work), as well as
around our bedtime (to entertain me and Frank).
Yesterday, I had my first appointment with my new OBGYN. We hit it off
a lot better than my last doctor. Frank and I worked on a birth plan,
which I presented to her. She reviewed it and said that we can pretty
much do what we want during labor as long as everyone is doing fine.
She was supportive of our philosophy to plan for a natural childbirth,
rather than plan for an epidural. It was nice to have a discussion with
the doctor, rather than my previous doctor who just said “natural
childbirth? Sounds painful.”
My next visit with her we get to have another sonogram. I guess she
wants one of her staff to conduct it rather than rely on what the
previous doctors office did. This time I was instructed to come with a
full bladder, which was something I’d always heard women complain
about, but since the other doctor didn’t tell me to do so, I figured
technology must have improved. Hopefully, they won’t keep me waiting
in the waiting room for over an hour like they did yesterday.
