Have Pillows, Will Travel

Last week, Frank was sick with a stomach flu for over 3 days. My
super-sensitive pregnant chick immune system successfully fought off
the bug because I went home with a fever on Thursday, took a nap and
was fine by Friday. I think that explains the backache and general blah
feeling that consumed me last week. For a few days, I was afraid that
it was just what being pregnant felt like and started to think that the
next 3 months would be miserable. Fortunately, we were both up and
moving for a trip to Jacksonville, FL to visit friends for Easter.

Traveling has definitely become more of an event for us. First off,
there’s the packing. One mandatory item is pillows. We packed an entire
laundry basket full of pillows of various sizes: for back support in
the car, belly support, knee support and regular pillows for in bed.

Distance is not measured so much by miles as by Dairy Queens and rest
stops. I’ve found myself making mental notes of all the good stops in
case I have a hankering for a Blizzard on the return trip. Noting
public bathrooms and planning potty stops are other musts.

It’s also hard to stay in the mind-set of a pregnant chick so I don’t
over do it. I have to find more ways of having fun while sitting down.
Fortunately, trips to Jacksonville usually involve sitting around at
the beach, sipping drinks at an oceanside bar and feasting on good
food.

We’ve got 3 more trips planned between now and the time we become a
family of 3 with a whole new set of packing and traveling dilemmas.
