Week 28, 2.8 pound baby, 164 pound Andrea

Yesterday we spent about 3 hours at the doctors office getting an ultrasound, blood sugar test and doctor’s exam. The ultrasound wasn’t as exciting as the first one, mainly because the baby is so big that you can only see one body part at a time. I was hoping we wouldn’t see any parts that would reveal the sex, and fortunately the technician seemed adept at avoiding those areas.

What I hadn’t really thought about is that the ultrasound is an x-ray, so we could actually see the four chambers of the baby’s heart pumping away. The baby was positioned with one foot pushing against my belly, the other foot near her mouth and an arm over her face. (I doubt I’ll ever be that flexible even with yoga.)

The estimated due date that popped out when they punched in all the numbers was July 18 (4 days early), but at this stage that most likely means that our baby is piling on fat ahead of schedule. From here on out, that’s the baby’s biggest task. I wonder why the plumpening-up phase can’t occur after delivery—it would sure make labor easier!

Here on out I visit the doctor every other week at least. We were also given homework! Once a day we have to record how long it takes to feel 10 baby kicks. If we can’t get our ten kicks after trying for 2 hours, we’re supposed to go to the hospital to get checked out. Last night we got all 10 in a minute and a half.

So, less than 12 weeks to get the nursery and house in order … where did time go?!?!
