Not Ready to Pop

It must be the heat down here (mid-upper 90′s) that makes pregnant
chicks appear more miserable. Several times in the last week I have
gotten comments from people indicating that they don’t think I’ll make
it to July 21st. The cashier at Lowes said I’m “gonna pop” to which my
response was “I hope not.” The hot dog vendor on Broad Street said it
looks like the baby is already dropping. Maybe these people are trying
to make me feel better by hinting that it will all be over soon, but I
don’t really want the baby to come early.

This may be a surprise coming from someone who has officially gained 41
pounds (I’m weighing in at 173) as of my checkup on Monday. I’m also
struggling to find comfortable things to wear. I didn’t expect to grow
out of my maternity clothes, but all my elastic waist band clothes are
too tight. Dresses are hard to find and mostly too short for me, and I
must be carrying low because all the below belly pants are in constant
danger of falling down. Sandals are the footwear of choice from here on
out as my feet are swelling.

But really, I don’t want the baby to come early. I still have a lot of
work to do to get ready both physically and logistically. I need as
much time as possible to practice my yoga stretches to limber up for
the birth. Then there’s the nursery… which is a nice color yellow,
but that’s about it. The crib arrived yesterday, so we’ll be assembling
that… then training the kitties that the crib is not a good place for
naps.

This weekend, however, we’ll make no progress on baby stuff because
we’ll be enjoying a mini-vacation to Bel Air for Christopher’s
graduation. I am hoping to use my current status to get some good seats
on the plane—hopefully they won’t stick us back by the potties. I’m
curious if the baby will do anything during take-off and landing. I’m
expecting some more kicks to the kidney. (We learned at our last visit
that the baby is head down, so her feet are in prime kidney kicking
position.)
