One Month till Parenthood

176 lbs week 36

I had a bit of a shock when realized yesterday was June 21, meaning
exactly one month till my due date. Today we had another checkup.
Everything followed the normal routine–the only unusual occurrence was
that I had a difficult time peeing into the cup. I realized my belly
now completely obstructs my view, preventing proper cup alignment prior
to peeing.

I’ve gained 2 pounds in the last two weeks which I attribute mostly to
the baby. Getting around is getting difficult. Getting into and out of
a car can be rather comical. Last week, one of my coworkers happened to
park on a slight incline, so that I would have to lunge uphill to get
out of the car. I hate to describe how ungraceful this maneuver was,
but the situation was so pathetic that several people asked to assist.

Then there’s the fact that I can barely reach the handle in order to
close the car door. It takes entirely too much concentration to stretch
and aim my hand in order to grab the door handle.

Once I’m in the vehicle things are ok—unless I drop something. If I’m
in the passenger seat and something falls to the floor, I must consider
it gone until I can get out of the car. There’s just no way to bend
down and pick anything up.

The baby is kicking around so much my belly gets sore. The other day I
could barely sit up, so I decided to lie down. This brought no relief
because the baby decided to start doing kidney kicks. I got the
brilliant idea to put an ice pack on my belly. The baby didn’t seem to
mind, so maybe I’ve found some relief.

Several times, the household has been awakened by my screaming. Leg
cramps, a common pregnancy ailment. It’s quite a jolt to be awakened so
painfully. I’ve discovered, however, that if I keep stretching my legs
every time I turn over throughout the night that it seems to prevent
the cramps – at least so far.

I’ve had to rephrase my response to the question of how long I will be
working. My new response is “I will work till the baby comes or until I
can no longer fit into any of my clothes.” I’m not buying any more
clothes, nor will I wear a toga to the office.

the name of the game is: babymacb-day. I haven’t
figured out what the prize is for the closest guess.
