Dropping Babies and Adding Pounds
Week 38, 179 lbs
I just had what may be my last visit to the doctor. She’s on vacation
next week, so my next appointment is Monday July 19th. This visit was
fairly exciting because I had another ultrasound to see how big the
baby is.
I can tell you though that, after this past weekend, I was convinced
that the baby was a good size. I went to sleep last Friday night and
had a lot of tummy troubles throughout the night. When I woke up
Saturday I could no longer walk without seriously waddling. My speed
had decreased dramatically. I think the baby started to drop, resulting
in more pressure in the bladder area and a significant waddle.
Fortunately, we were at the beach and the biggest thing I had to worry
about was deciding whether to have a snow cone or take another dip in
the ocean.
The ultrasound technician told me that the baby is indeed quite low (as
indicated by how far down she had to pull my pants to measure the
baby’s head). The baby seemed to be quite comfy, sucking on her thumb
with her hands on her face. If I put my right hand on the side of my
belly, that’s where the baby’s back is, and the head is facing to my
left down above my left thigh. The feet are capable of being anywhere
from in front of the baby’s face to the kidney and rib kicking area
when they are stretched out.
I won’t tell you how much the baby weighs since I don’t want anyone to
have an advantage in the guessing game I posted. I did learn that the
baby will likely gain half a pound a week, so I need to add a pound to
the weight they estimated today.
So, as I mentioned earlier, my doctor will be out of town the next
week. She asked me if I wanted to schedule the baby to be induced on
the due date. I told her no, but now I’m questioning my sanity for
being pregnant one day longer than necessary in this 100 degree heat
we’ve been having. I guess only time will tell…
