Yay! Pee Pee!
We’ve been working on potty training errr . . . potty learning. I haven’t been pushing it at all since you’re not supposed to start until she’s 2.5 to 3 years old, but she’s been very interested in the potty, and has exhibited the signs of being ready. We’ve just taken the little potty into our home and welcomed it by sitting on it a couple times a day. Actually, we have two potties - the little potty on the floor and the little seat that sits on top of a regular toilet.
Elizabeth has trickled a few times, but yesterday morning she had her first morning pee in the potty. She was thrilled, shouting “yay! pee pee!” She was quite proud that she could make such a noise.
I’ve learned from a friend of mine who potty trained 20+ years ago that all 3 of her kids were potty trained well before their second birthdays. This is just how it was done. I’m wondering if disposable diapers are the cause for later potty learning, because the baby can’t tell when she’s wet. That’s a plus for cloth diapering, Elizabeth definitely knows when she’s wet. She wore a disposable in a pool and it managed to keep her dry by absorbing half the pool.
So now, I get to have some fun making training pants for her. I’ve found that you can only get so far with potty training when she can’t remove her own diaper. With training pants, she’ll be able to pull them down all by herself. Given her recent fondness for nakedness, maybe we’ll just wear them in the house so we don’t cause a scene at the store.
