Undressing
I knew the time would come when Elizabeth would decide to undress in public. That moment came at this weeks La Leche League meeting. I have to say she chose her moment and setting well, there were about 6 baby/toddlers there and 5 moms sitting in a circle surrounding her when she decided that she no longer wished to wear her shirt.
I spent the whole meeting trying to distract her from her shirt, trying to keep her dressed. I was hoping that the situation would not digress to the point where I would have to “handle” the situation. I didn’t really know what to do if the distraction technique failed. Once you set a boundary like “you must wear a shirt in public,” there’s no going back. You have to follow through. Luckily, the distractions worked, and she didn’t throw a tantrum.
Later that afternoon, we experienced the opposite extreme as Elizabeth demanded that I help her put on all three new shirts we just bought. She wore all three until I managed to slip them off one at a time.
I’m really hoping that she masters the art of putting on/taking off clothes, so she doesn’t have to practice so much!
