It’s in the Numbers
We’ve been teaching Elizabeth numbers and counting. She likes to count her toes and the hippos on the pages of her book. When I ask her how many there are of something, she replies (in her counting voice) “du – du – tu.”
It was a surprise to me when I said “Elizabeth, you can only have one cup,” and she replied “no! two!” She already had one for each hand, which makes sense I guess.
“One” is a bad word to her. Anytime I say “take one,” “only one,” “here’s one for you,” etc. she usually replies “no.” It took me awhile to figure out that she was saying no to “one” and not to what was offered. I guess I’ll have to start saying “have a cup” or “take a cookie.”
