Benefits of Nursing a Toddler
Before having Elizabeth, I hadn’t done much research on breastfeeding. I had no idea how long you were supposed to do it. I remember telling my OB that I hadn’t thought about how long I would nurse Elizabeth, but planned forĀ 6 months. (This would have been a good opportunity for Dr. Christy to educate me by telling me the American Academy of Pediatrics recommends nursing for at least a year, but that would have meant taking time with a patient.)
Now, here we are almost two years later and still nursing. I hate saying “still nursing” — it makes it sound negative, but there is a lot of research supportive of toddler nursing. I’m glad we’ve stuck with it!
A fellow La Leche League mom sent out this link on the benefits of toddler nursing.
