Alien Abduction?
Last week Elizabeth had a 102 degree fever off and on for 3 days. Aside from that, she was her usual self. Then a few days later she started acting like grump-zilla and a rash appeared on her face and down her belly. For three days, the Elizabeth that we know was replaced by a screaming, shrieking toddler who was never happy. It would go something like:
E: I want up in the chair!!
Me: OK (put her in the chair)
E: I want down!!
Me: OK (put her down)
E: I want up in the chair!!!!
ME: Too bad you already were up in the chair.
E: WAAAHHHHH!!! (Collapses on the floor screaming)
[Insert another demand and repeat]
We would be carrying on with our business and she would suddenly demand something, like a snack. She would just keep repeating “I want a SNACK!” until we would stop what we were doing and tend to her. It only got worse when her demands were not something we wanted to give her.
It turns out that it was just a virus. I feared that it might be fifths disease (scary name for a common childhood rash). Apparently, fifths disease can cause miscarriages and problems with unborn babies. Since I’m past the first trimester, I wasn’t too scared, but I’m glad we got Elizabeth checked out.
On Sunday I knew she was better when she woke up smiling and didn’t immediately start screaming about her diaper. The old Elizabeth reappeared as quickly as she had disappeared. Whew!
