What is Attachment Parenting?

I’ve always struggled on how to explain attachment parenting to people who ask. When I tell people they usually look at me like “what’s so special about that?”
I just found a great definition that I am committing to memory:

Attachment parenting (AP), a phrase coined by Dr. William Sears, is a parenting philosophy that is also known as “natural parenting”, “instinctive parenting,” and “intuitive parenting”. The hallmarks of attachment parenting are the five B’s—bonding, breastfeeding, babywearing, bedding with baby and being responsive to your baby’s cry. Because AP is based on responsive parenting, practices that ignore the baby’s cues (e.g. cry-it-out, scheduled feedings) or devalue or disrespect the child (e.g. spanking, shaming) are not [AP].

I bet there are a lot of moms out there practicing the 5 Bs who don’t realize they’re attachment parenting!
