Excema

Today I got confirmation that the rash I’ve had for the last 3 months is indeed excema. Pregnancy hormones can do weird things to your system I guess! I’ve never had excema, but it does run in my family. It doesn’t seem like your typical case of excema judging by the dermatologist’s reaction. They took two tissue samples of the rash to confirm that it wasn’t fungal.

I’m not sure how or if I’m going to treat the rash. It’s not too pretty to look at, but I only scratch it a couple times a day. The bugbites I have are definitely more bothersome. I’m hesitant to take any medicine during pregnancy because of the simple fact that medications aren’t tested on human fetuses. It’s only after kids are born with problems and the doctors connect the dots that they discover that a drug is unsafe. As the granddaughter of a woman who took DES during pregnancy, you can understand my hesitancy. If anyone out there has any natural remedies that work, let me know!

The visit was smack in the middle of naptime, so Elizabeth was a bit high maintenance. The highlight of the visit was when I put her on the exam table to play dentist while we waited for the doctor. She decided it was more fun to play delivery room. She put her knees to her ears and said “I’m pushing the new baby out!” Luckily she didn’t start grunting or anything loud, and when the doctor came in he didn’t realize what she was saying.

I guess this is the downside to keeping her informed of what will be happening in the hospital. We do plan on her being there in the delivery room, hopefully with her Grandi Mac to chaperone her should she get scared. At this rate maybe we should hire Elizabeth as a doula!
