A Pound?
We just had Elena in for a 11 day check-up and she’s gained a pound since she was born. Granted, she had a diaper on at the weighing, but the doctor was extremely pleased. They’re usually happy with .5 oz a day weight gain, which would have been .5 pounds. All I can say is that unlimited breastfeeding and cosleeping is paying off!
So far, Elena is proving to be a very easy-going baby. She sleeps A LOT, which makes it easier to give her big sister the extra attention she is wanting right now. I sometimes worry that she is sleeping too much, but then a friend reminded me that I was worried about Elizabeth because she never slept. I guess you can’t win.
I did try and educate the doctor who said “it’s fine if she’s sleeping 5-6 hours a night.” This early in our nursing relationship she should be nursing at least every 4 hours. After 4 hours the breasts send a signal to stop making milk. Not a good thing when you’re trying to get your supply going. I’ve had to prod Elena to wake her up several nights because she’s been asleep for over 4 hours!
